I enjoyed making a water xylophone. I made up the tune Mary had a little lamb. I recorded it and then played the same tune on the piano. I found that the tune worked on the piano.
Then we took off the piano cover and looked at the hammers hitting the strings. The low notes had big strings and the high notes had little strings. The strings vibrated when we touched the keys because it pushes the hammer down and it hits the string making it able to vibrate.

Hi Nakita.
ReplyDeleteGreat work on this task Nakita. You really loved trying different ways to make music and learning about how vibrations cause the sounds you hear. How do you think a woodwind (Flute) instrument works, does it use vibrations too? How would you know?

ReplyDeleteMy name is Shannon and I’m from the Summer Learning Journey.
Good job on a fantastic blog post. You’ve done incredibly well constructing your xylophone, and I love that you played “Mary had a little lamb” both on your hand made instrument and your piano. Ka pai! It was great!
I’ve never played any instruments bar the recorder but I’ve always wanted to! Can you play any other instruments? If so which one(s)? How long have you played piano?
Perhaps you could add a picture of your finished xylophone at the start of your blog post so readers know what they’re making.
Happy blogging!
Ka kite anō,

hi Shannon.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment. I can only play the piano. I have played the piano from when I was 5 (I am 8). I like playing long song like the bugle boys.

Hi Nakita,
DeleteThat's so cool! You should upload yourself playing more of your favourite songs! I know I would love to see it as well as the other SLJ commentators!
What inspired you to learn the piano?
Bye for now,
Shannon (SLJ)
Hi Shannon.
DeleteI like your idea, I should try it. I got inspired to learn the piano from my family, because I like listening to them playing. What can you play on your recorder?
Nakita
Hi Nakita,
DeleteCan your whole family play the piano?
I can play jingle bells!
Have a great day!
